In Roman mythology, Flora was a Sabine-derived Spring goddess of flowers . Flutura is Albanian for “butterfly”. The names play together well, and demonstrate the love between them, and the enduring connection.

I was busy collecting flowers over the past year and ideas have been swirling around in my head. This one was first. I wanted to create a Spring scene that reflects the awakening of the Spirit, the senses, and the soul.

I collected the flowers in this piece in February through April of this year and carefully pressed them. The Hellebores were the first to emerge in February. Often covered in snow, they are the first sign of the warmth that is coming.

Hellebores, Spring daisies, cherry blossoms, phlox, wild violets, and Columbine encompass Flora as she greets Flutura and her winged friends.

I hope this scene inspires you to connect with the natural world and listen to the sweetness it has to whisper in your ear. At the very least, let it bring you hope of what is to come, because there will always be Spring.

This was a joy to create.
